WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

What is the cost?

$27. Not a typo. Very much on purpose.

This low cost fee helps cover the essentials and ensures the room is filled with people ready to actively participate. The focus is on problem-solving.

This is a working session built around your obstacles, not a revenue-driven pre-conference workshop.
(After all, you paid for Slate Summit already…)

Who is this for?

This experience is for anyone working in Slate who wants help moving something forward. That includes technical builds, reporting, workflows, portals, campaigns, data questions, and strategic or process-related challenges.

You do not need to be the most technical person in the room. You just need a real obstacle and a willingness to work on it.

What’s included in the workshop?

• Guided problem-solving with Post Captain experts
• Time and space to focus on real Slate work
• Peer connections with others facing similar challenges
• Snacks and beverages throughout the afternoon
• Parking nearby (a short walk or quick ride from conference hotels)
• Plus, an optional Next Steps Session (AFTER the event)

What will I leave with?

One word? Unstuck.

More detailed? You’ll leave with real progress on a real Slate obstacle. That might look like a working solution, a solid draft (portals, workflows, campaigns, etc.) you can continue building on, or a clear set of next steps you feel confident executing.

You’ll also leave with practical context, peer connections, and clarity around what to tackle next when you’re back at your desk.

What is the 30-day Next Steps Session?

After the event, you’ll have the option to schedule a 30-day follow-up working session to continue building, troubleshoot what surfaced later, or turn on-site progress into something fully finished.

Our goal is to help institutions get more out of Slate by making the platform work for them, not the other way around. This session is part of that commitment. It’s time set aside to help ensure technology is not the thing standing between your team and the outcomes you’re working toward. There is no pitch and no obligation. Just focused time to keep momentum going.

When and where is the event?

Tuesday, June 23
1:00–5:00 PM CT

The Hackathon Classroom (5th Floor)
Jack Massey Center
Belmont University
Nashville, TN

(a short walk or quick ride from conference hotels)

Do I need to be there at 1 PM?
Can I come and go during the event?

Not necessarily. If you have multiple obstacles or want the most time to work, we recommend arriving early.

Also, travel happens. Schedules shift. You’re welcome to arrive late, leave early, or step out as needed. The session runs continuously from 1:00–5:00 PM.

What should I bring?

• Your laptop
• Access to your Slate instance
• A real obstacle you want help with
• Questions and curiosity
• Your enthusiasm!

No prep work required.

What’s the format?

This is a hands-on, open working session for 4 hours.

You’ll start in a Solution Pod, aligned with what you shared during registration. From there, you can stay put or move between pods as your work evolves and new questions come up.

More detail on how Solution Pods work and the types of topics covered is outlined below.

What’s a Solution Pod?

A Solution Pod is a small, facilitated group focused on working through similar Slate challenges together, with support from a Post Captain team member.

We’ll review your input from registration and place you in a pod with others that may be working on the same thing.

We’ll provide details about who else is in the group and what else there is to work on.

Think of it as a starting point rather than a fixed assignment.

You’ll have time to work through multiple obstacles, but the focus is on making meaningful progress, not rushing through a long list.

How do I register?

Complete the registration form, linked from this page. You’ll be asked for:
• Basic contact information
• Your Slate experience level
• The obstacle or obstacles you want to work on
• Payment details

You’ll receive a confirmation email after registering.

Will food and beverages be provided?

Yes. We’ll have snacks and beverages available throughout the afternoon so you can stay focused while you work.

Will there be a bag drop?

Yes. We’ll have a secure room available if you arrive early or your hotel isn’t ready yet.

What if my obstacle changes before the event?

That’s expected. After you register, we’ll check in a few times leading up to the event to see if your obstacle has changed or evolved. You can also update your registration at any time using the link in your confirmation email so we can match you as thoughtfully as possible.

Accessibility

If you have accessibility needs or questions, please let us know when you register or reach out directly. We’re happy to work with you to make this experience accessible and comfortable.

Your Solution Pod Experience

These areas are meant to help you get oriented, not to limit what you can bring. You don’t need to “fit” cleanly into one category, and many obstacles cut across multiple areas.

Use these examples as inspiration, not a checklist:

Queries / Reporting

Examples of things you might bring:
– A query that technically works but is WAY too slow
– A report that answers some questions but somehow not the important ones
– Operations queries you copy every year and want to modernize or simplify
– Moving queries into Configurable Joins (or making CJs usable for your team)
– Figuring out what you should be reporting on—not just how

If you’ve ever said “this query just isn’t clicking,” bring it here.

Portals / Liquid Markup

Examples might include:
– A portal that’s grown too complex to manage comfortably
– Liquid markup that works but is fragile or hard to maintain
– Redirects, conditional logic, or dynamic content that doesn’t behave as expected
– Rebuilding or rethinking a portal to better support a process or audience
– Strategic questions about what should live in a portal vs somewhere else

This can be about fixing custom code or about avoiding it altogether and simplifying the whole approach.

Workflows

Examples include:
– Rebuilding legacy workflows in the new workflow editor
– Reader forms that have become too long, confusing, or hard to maintain
– Using modern tools like reader portals or Slate AI
– Designing workflow rules that support people and simplify processing
– Questions about how to structure workflows at scale

Not just “how do I build this,” but “what’s the right workflow design here?”

Deliver

Examples might look like:
– Cleaning up campaign / population structure that’s gotten messy over time
– Improving email templates without starting from scratch
– Reporting on opens, clicks, or bounces in a way that actually makes sense
– Expanding your use of Deliver into texting, Slate Print, or document generation

Whether it’s design, data, or strategy—if Deliver is slowing you down, bring it.

Integrations / Data

Examples include:
– Rebuilding or rethinking old integrations or data feeds
– Migrating integration queries out of local query bases
– Understanding how data moves through Slate (and where it breaks down)
– Exploring web services access and Slate API functionality
– Strategic questions about what should be integrated vs handled manually

This is about understanding what’s possible and how to move effectively.

Ops / Governance / Process

Examples include:
– Slate team structure, roles, and responsibility questions
– Documentation, governance, decision-making processes, or testing protocols
– Figuring out how to standardize functionality without slowing everyone down
– “We know Slate can do this, but we don’t know the best way to approach it”
– Strategic planning for what to tackle next (and what not to)

If your obstacle comes from HOW Slate work gets done—not how Slate is configured—it belongs here.
