From Spreadsheet Hell to Workflow Heaven: Automating Complex Evaluations and Remediation Processes
Mandatory clerkship exam evaluation was a high-stakes, time-consuming mess: cutoff scores vary by year, remediation is complex, and delays are costly. Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine will show the Slate solution that changed the game. We’ll walk through how we moved from manual entry and evaluation to automation, starting with a custom “Clerkship Calculator” that uses dynamic data to evaluate scores. Then we’ll show the automated remediation workflow that immediately notifies and engages everyone—from Clerkship Directors to the Registrar to students. Leave with ideas for building accurate, efficient workflows with queries, source formats, and portals.

“Yes, You Need to Know Configurable Joins”: A Beginner’s Guide to Configurable Joins
“Do I really need to know Configurable Joins?” Yes. Yes, you do. This beginner-friendly session is for folks new to Slate or querying in general. We’ll cover what CJs are, how they work, and where they show up in Slate, plus key terms like queries, reports, exports, filters, joins, and outputs—without assuming technical expertise. Using simple, visual examples, you’ll see how joins behave at different levels of a query. You’ll leave ready to explain the basics and start using CJs with confidence.

Stop Chasing External Documents: Creating Signed Gift Agreements Natively
Gift agreements can be a workflow black hole: Word templates, endless revisions, emailed drafts, and the eternal question of which version is “final.” What if agreements could be generated, edited, signed, and stored entirely in Slate? See how Earlham replaced fragmented document chaos with two fully native solutions using custom fields, tabs, forms, Liquid markup, conditional logic, and Slate’s digital signatures. We’ll cover both paths: handling complex, non-standard agreements with editable templates, and generating standardized fund agreements from structured data. You’ll leave with repeatable patterns you can use immediately.

One Feature, Many Uses: Customizing Assignments for Advancement
Assignments give you a native way to track and manage assigned records in Slate—without pretending to be portfolios or tasks. This joint session shows how partner institutions are adopting and adapting Assignments for advancement, from fund stewardship to qualification and portfolio management. You’ll hear two models in practice (Miami University and Bates College), including how teams supported adoption with query building, Express Portal updates, and Showcase modifications. We’ll cover practical configuration decisions, early feedback from fund managers, and lessons learned as Assignments move into real use—so you can build something flexible without adding unnecessary complexity.
